Dear SE Families and Community,  As shared earlier today, we had a middle school student test positive for COVID-19.  This afternoon we identified the individuals who were in close contact with the positive person in connection to the school or school activities.  If your child was identified as a close contact we have contacted you by phone already and informed you of the need to quarantine. If you are one of the families we contacted earlier today you will also be contacted by the Seneca County Health Department as we have shared the names and email addresses for those identified as a close contacts. If you DID NOT receive a call from the school informing you that your child was a contact you do NOT need to do anything as your child was not in close contact for 15 minutes or more with the positive person.  Your child may have been in the same classroom as the positive student, but they were not within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes, so they do not need to quarantine.  I know this is a difficult and stressful time for families, We will continue to update you whenever we have positive cases at the school.   At this time we will continue to stay open for school at Seneca East.  We need your continued support if we want to be able to stay in school. It is critically important that students who do not feel well stay home from school.  PLEASE do not send your child to school if they have any of the high-risk symptoms of COVID-19 including a new cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste/smell, or are running a fever.  Please do not send your child to school if they have two or more of the low-risk symptoms of COVID-19 including congestion/runny nose, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, sore throat, headache, or muscle weakness.  Please see the resources available at www.se-tigers.com or www.senecahealthdept.org for additional information.  The COVID-19 Hotline can be reached at 1-833-427-5634. To the Seneca East Community: The welfare and safety of our community during this time is Seneca East’s primary concern. We are writing to inform you of a recent development relating to COVID-19. We recently learned of a middle school student who has tested positive for COVID-19. We are working directly with the Seneca County Health Department to identify and inform all students who have are considered to be a close contact. A close contact is any person within 6 feet of the infected person for 15 minutes prior to 48 hours of a positive test for an asymptomatic cases or within 48 hours from the onset of symptoms for a person who displayed symptoms. Close contacts of the infected student will be required to quarantine. Seneca East will provide the Seneca County Health Department with the email addresses for all student families who are identified as close contact. Families will receive information regarding the details and duration of the quarantine from the Seneca County Health Department. We understand that this is a challenging situation at several levels. We ask that you respect the privacy of this individual. We will continue to take steps to help protect the health and safety of our community, including assisting with contact tracing, deep sanitation of the building and facilities, and a commitment to established safety routines. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind our community of some important safety practices regarding COVID-19. Engage in social distancing. Do not go to school if you are sick Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available then use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. Monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 Those who develop a cough, fever, or have difficulty breathing should call their primary care provider. The CDC website (www.cdc.gov/COVID19) contains all current recommendations for this evolving situation. Seneca East will remain open at this time. We will keep you informed about any changes that are needed to help prevent the spread of the virus. This is not a time to panic. It is however a time to be attentive, flexible, and serious regarding the steps we need to take as a community to care for ourselves and for one another. Please be attentive to communications from Seneca East addressing COVID-19. Check the district website at www.se-tigers.com for developing information. If you have any questions, contact Amy Ferres, district nurse at aferres@se-tigers.com, Laura Kagy, superintendent at lkagy@se-tigers.com or the Seneca County Health Department at 419-447-3691. Thank you for helping to keep people safe and to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and school. Laura Kagy, Ed.D Superintendent
