Congratulations to Doug Mason for earning the Fred Dafler Career State Coach of the Year Award! Coach Mason has coached boys cross country at Seneca East since 2005. Under his leadership, the program has grown from just five runners in grades 7-12 to thriving, competitive teams consistently fielding more than 20-25 athletes each season. During his tenure, Coach Mason has built a tradition of excellence with a record of 2193-972. His teams have captured 5 league championships, 3 district runner-up titles, 6 district titles, a regional runner-up title, a regional championship, and 5 state meet appearances, with teams never placing lower than eighth place. Doug guided the Tigers to the school's first-ever state championship in boys cross country in 2012. Doug also has coached junior high boys track since 1995, guiding countless young athletes and securing numerous invitational wins and league titles. Doug has received conference coach of the year honors on multiple occasions, as well as District 6 Coach of the Year honors. Doug also serves as the athletic director at Seneca East, and along with coaching, he promotes our sports by organizing and assisting with several invitational meets each year, always prioritizing the athletes. Known for his selflessness, dedication, and unwavering support of his athletes, Coach Mason continues to shape a highly respected running program.
