Seneca East - FFA

Founded in 1928, Future Farmers of America’s (FFA) mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. The name was changed in 1988 to the National FFA Organization to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture, but their work remains the same - they are the premier youth organization preparing members for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. At Seneca East, we are fortunate to have a successful FFA chapter that continues to grow in interest each year.

Congratulate those who were recognized at the annual awards banquet on April 11. Several students received their Greenhand degree, which is given to first-year high school students who have demonstrated that they have a thorough understanding of the history and purpose of FFA and have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) plan. Additionally, 15 students were given proficiency awards in categories ranging from market sheep production and beef breeding to woodworking, welding, and community service. A special congratulations also go to the Star Farmer winners who are selected based on their outstanding SAE in production agriculture and are students who demonstrate a high level of involvement in the chapter’s overall activities.

Multiple Seneca East FFA members also received scholarships as part of the national FFA scholarship program. Scholarships are awarded to students who excel in the various curriculum offerings within the agriscience department.
